Cast vs calendered film — why cheap wraps lift at the edges

Two families of vinyl come up when printing scooter wraps. The industry terms: cast and calendered. You don’t need to remember brands. What matters is how the film holds up on a scooter in Vietnam: sun, rain, pressure washing, curved panels.

Calendered film. Cheaper, thick, feels “stiff”, stretches poorly. Many shops printing separate decals / tiger-stripe decals use it. On curved panels (the Air Blade’s front shield, SH panels, Vision side panels) the film tends to pull back toward flat → the edges lift after the rainy season or after pressure washing.

Cast film. Softer, conforms to curves better, more dimensionally stable once applied. More expensive. Suited to full-cover wraps and wrapping the whole body.

The same curved front shield: calendered film wrinkling at the edge on the left, cast vinyl hugging the shape on the right
Left: stiff film, the edge doesn’t follow the curve. Right: cast film sits flat on the panel.

TXD uses cast vinyl for its sets cut from a 3D scan. We don’t name the film brand on the site until the supplier is finalized and verified. We don’t promise “5 years, like the brochure says”. Brochures are written for other climates; in Nha Trang, Saigon or Hanoi it’s real sun and real washing.

Cast film won’t save a sloppy install: dust under the film, panels not removed, overlaps too narrow, a pressure washer aimed at the edges. The result = material + skill. TXD is responsible for the cut; the shop is responsible for the install.

If someone sells a “premium 3-layer wrap” for 150,000₫ for a whole Air Blade — it’s not the same product. Don’t compare that price with a full-cover set cut from a scan.
